- exactly why I bothered to ask P.Kittel about AT's involvement- and why his
- answer seemed rather "short-sighted" to me. Because noone can ignore JAVA
- anymore, and it opens an ability to get hold of programms, independent of the
- cpu and OS ( according to SUN-News the Java- programmers did think a bit of
- braking the Windows's dominion..). Which would be a rather cheap and fast
- chance to get a system like the Amiga back on track. 'cause the other way
- would be to implement an emulator into new Amiga OS', which is rather
- pervert. But more and more programmers will not support the Amiga anymore,
- simple it does not work out financially, which can be understood easily. Even
- that the Amiga-progs might be good and are cheaper than PC/MAC's, one should
- take into consideration, that the people buying computers these days are not
- "freaks" anymore- it is the ordinary folks. And these people relay on the
- infos they get on TV etc. Imagine somebody buying this sc. "SurfPack"- starts
- it and ..." where is this Netscape, Words etc..", about I have heard so much
- on TV...and now they are confronted with a machine that offers none of
- these...dissapointment for sure.
- If the Amiga wants to survive it has to get back on the mainstream, specially
- with software- titles that are well known by the masses. And therefor JAVA is
- so important.Noneof the less I think that JAVA will be the future programmer's
- main tools, because of the compatibility. Think that you could programm a 3d-
- prog on a siliconGrafics/sun and use it on an Amiga etc. The programmers
- choose the most suitable system for their developments and put it on the net
- to be used by all platforms. They did give a try with UNIX in the same way,
- but the invirement was not created in those days- but now with the Internet
- the bases for this is given.
-
- So JAVA is allmost a" god given gift", and I am wondering why it is
- neglected by AT. I do not say that they have to do it by themselves, but they
- should support this project with all their force. And nowone can tell me that
- they could not coordinate PowerAmiga and JAVA, and can only concentrate on
- either- as many people responded...AT should do the marketing and coordinate
- the various projects done by good people...is this that difficult to do ?
